(About The Images)
(1842-50) BECHTLER K-24, R-3. PCGS AU-50. (1842-50) BECHTLER K-24, R-3. PCGS AU-50.
Lot Title: (1842-50) BECHTLER K-24, R-3. PCGS AU-50.
Description: This August Bechtler specimen is listed as Breen 7764. It's undated, but was issued between 1842 and 1852, first by Christopher Bechtler's son, August, then by August's son, Christopher, Jr. The piece appears to be an earlier issue, prior to the dies becoming rusted, with fields that are lustrous and somewhat prooflike. An interesting identifying characteristic is that the reverse is rotated slightly more than 90 degrees. There are no detracting surface marks or blemishes to note. The design details are quite crisp. Its surfaces have acquired an appealing reddish orange hue over its green-gold aspect, resulting in an heirloom quality.

A Bechtler Gold $1 (Kagin-24), 27 grain, 21 carat. PCGS AU-58.

(1842-50) $1 A. BECHTLER/27 Grains/21 Carat/Plain Edge (K-24m R.3)....
Bechtler gold dollars were popular and circulated actively, and it is no surprise that some were abused during their lifetime due to widespread use. This example shows some gentle bends in the...
705The Collectors' Auction 2009 on 10/16/2009$1,000.00
(1842-50) BECHTLER. PCGS Genuine/bent.
There is something crudely compelling about the simplicity of Bechtel gold, as it speaks to directness and practical convenience. The (presumed) obverse merely gives the weight of the "CAROLINA GOLD"...
