Lot Title:
1853 MS-60 Lightly Cleaned.
Description:
This example is from the earliest period, "Period One", for these privately issued coins. It is ascribed as BG-519, Rarity-Low 4. A piece that was issued by M. Deriberpe, a Frenchman who was a jeweler in San Francisco. His name is seen abbreviated on the lower reverse. It nearly replicates not only the weight, but also Liberty's motif of a Type I United States gold dollar. Octagonal in shape with a plain edge, it has an inner beaded border on its reverse. Although there is the possibility of it having been subjected to a delicate wiping, it glistens with a rich yellow reflectivity.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
