Lot Title:
(1842-50) BECHTLER. PCGS Genuine/bent.
Description:
There is something crudely compelling about the simplicity of Bechtel gold, as it speaks to directness and practical convenience. The (presumed) obverse merely gives the weight of the "CAROLINA GOLD" as 27 grains / 21 carat, and the other side states "A. BECHTLER 1 DOL." PCGS has encapsulated this bent example as genuine, and your cataloger suggests that it bears XF-40 details. Although a dull thud next to the denomination is responsible for distortion of the planchet, it is possible that a mechanically adept collector could straighten the coin back out. Scarce and delightful in spite of imperfection!
