Lot Title:
1881 ANACS PF-65.
Description:
An early ANACS slab from the time when they were affiliated with the ANA displays a grade of PF-65 for this 1881 quarter, and there are no meaningful hairlines or distractions to detract from that assessment. Ironically, while business strikes of this same date are known for many fully cameo examples, this proof exhibits only minimal contrast on Liberty's portrait, and almost none on the reverse. This could sometimes lead to a rather tedious appearance, but fortunately, some light obverse rim tone and stronger accents of cobalt-blue on the reverse keep this from being a monotonous coin.
