(About The Images)
1881 NGC PF-64 CAC. 1881 NGC PF-64 CAC.
Lot Title: 1881 NGC PF-64 CAC.
Description: Surfaces are remarkably dark and from some viewing angles appear to be nearly midnight-blue, but angle this quarter just so and blazing cobalt brilliance leaps up off the fields and endows the central figures with a suitably illuminated plush backdrop. A hint of magenta iridescence visits the obverse fields and ensnares the eagle, but without doubt, the dark blue patina is what dominates overall. Being so thoroughly drenched in color, it is not easy to discern the degree of contrast such a proof coin exhibits, but close examination reveals unmistakable proof frost on the devices, and plenty of smooth reflectivity in the fields. A solitary blemish on Liberty's knee may be all that bars a higher grade.

1881 ANACS PF-65.
An early ANACS slab from the time when they were affiliated with the ANA displays a grade of PF-65 for this 1881 quarter, and there are no meaningful hairlines or distractions to detract from that...
