Lot Title:
1803 Small 3 (B-4, BB-254, R.3). VF/light old cleaning.
Description:
The obverse features dark leather-brown patina that almost seems ashy by comparison to the more typical silver-beige coloration of the reverse. Odd surface friction seemingly indicates a light old cleaning, but no hairlines are immediately obvious. Hairline striations at the first couple of stars are adjustment marks, and not post-mint impairment.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

The only "large 3" die-marriage, this example seems ever so slightly glossy when one "peeks through" the biscuit-gold patina, but the devices still show pleasing accumulation of dirt, especially... |

This specimen's resplendent surfaces are enriched by an exquisite blending of gold and blue. It was, perhaps, lightly wiped as evidenced by a slightly lightened central sector on its obverse. Other... |
