(About The Images)
1801 Wide Date variety (B-1, BB-211, R.3) AU/cleaned. 1801 Wide Date variety (B-1, BB-211, R.3) AU/cleaned.
Lot Title: 1801 Wide Date variety (B-1, BB-211, R.3) AU/cleaned.
Description: Just enough luster may remain despite aggressive cleaning to permit an AU details grade, though this coin is much too white to allow for a straight grade. Planchet marks cross over Liberty's portrait, but except for a tiny dark planchet flaw on her neck, neither side is affected by marks or disturbances. The reverse retains nearly half the full cartwheel effect.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

761The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$2,100.00
1801 PCGS VF-25.
Campania Estate. Low-key mauve-grey patina encompasses a considerable portion of the visual aspect for both sides, and many collectors will appreciate this display over silver coins that are "too...

1801 (B-1, BB-211), AU details/cleaned.
7070 Collection. While moderately cleaned to a too-white appearance, some luster may remain persistent and tempts an "AU details" grade assessment. Tiny planchet marks cross over Liberty's portrait,...
783The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$900.00
1801 (B-2, BB-212) NGC F details/repaired.
Marshmallow Collection. Repaired per NGC, though now coated with slimy black patina. The reverse seems to offer VF sharpness.
784The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$1,100.00
1801 (B-1, BB-211) NGC VF details/repaired.

1801 (B-1, BB-211) NGC AU details/improperly cleaned.

1801 (B-1, BB-211, R.3) Wide Date PCGS Genuine/code 92 (XF...
Grading services may have entered a phase of less predictability, because in years past, an early silver dollar that has been this mildly cleaned would have made it into a holder right off the bat. ...
548The Collectors' Auction 2008 on 10/17/2008$1,950.00
1801 (B-4, BB-214, R.4) XF, lightly cleaned.
Strong details suggest preservation very near the AU level, and the obverse is fairly evenly patinated in slate-grey color. Glossy surfaces on the reverse suggest a mild cleaning which has left that...
670The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$875.00
1801 B-3 VF-25 Details, Cleaned.
Rather odd bluish grey colors on the obverse and magenta-orange colors on the reverse--possibly heat-induced--have taken the place of what were once overly bright fields. Despite the injustice of the...
671The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$3,100.00
1801 B-2 ANACS XF-40.
A small dig below the Eagle’s left (observed) wing is the only mentionable detraction for this unusually smooth bust dollar. In your cataloger’s opinion, the coin seems just a hair better defined...

1801 B-3, BB-213, R-3. ANACS XF-40.
This enhancing silver-gray specimen has dabbles of enhancing golden hues. It is void of detracting marks or blemishes, and has only a meager number of contact ticks. Its desirable visual appeal is...

1801 B-2, BB-212, R-3. ICG AU-50.
