Lot Title:
1873 "closed 3" NGC AU-58 and 1878-S PCGS AU-55 Coronet quarter-eagles.
Description:
An 1873 "closed 3" quarter eagle in an NGC AU-58 holder pairs up well with an 1878-S quarter-eagle graded AU-55 by PCGS. The coins display a virtually identical appearance from the standpoint of grade and quality, and couldn't be matched up any better for a date set.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

A dusting of apricot patina suffuses both sides with a frosty appearance. The luster is perhaps slightly muted, but undeniably unbroken and original. Suitably struck, and lacking any mentionable... |
