Lot Title:
1873 Closed 3. PCGS MS-63.
Description:
A little scarcer than the "closed 3", the date was changed on this and other denominations in 1873 in order to stem the reported confusion caused by mistaking the "3" as an "8". This particular example is decidedly very appealing, due mostly do some lovely , deep copper-gold patina lining the fields and surrounding brighter corn-gold details. The deeper coloration persists even more stubbornly on the reverse, and both side incur only trivial abrasions to account for the grade. (PCGS# 007818)

A dusting of apricot patina suffuses both sides with a frosty appearance. The luster is perhaps slightly muted, but undeniably unbroken and original. Suitably struck, and lacking any mentionable... |
