1797 Plain Edge - '96 Rev, S-135, R-3+. VF-35.

Description:
|
A representative from the "Nichols Find" distribution (David Nichols of Gallows Hill, Massachusetts circa 1863). The majority of these 1,000 or so Large Cents are represented by the following Sheldon varieties: 1796 S-119, 1797 S-123, and 1797 S-135. This final variety is the most numerous in all grade levels. It’s a lovely medium brown example on glossy surfaces. A patch of red is perceived adjacent to Liberty's hair ribbon and hair strands. Additionally, its minimally marked surfaces contribute to its charm. The obverse has sharp design definition, while the reverse wreath has somewhat indistinct leaf detailing.
