Lot Title:
1797 Plain Edge - '96 Rev., Reverse Die Swelling, (S-138, R-1). Fine details.
Description:
Die bulges characterize the reverse of this popular Sheldon variety, producing the distortion at "D S" and "S OF A" on the reverse. Pleasing walnut-grey color figures into this example's appearance, though a remnant of old corrosion has strewn crumbs of minor porosity across the obverse. Nicely centered, with trivial rim ticks on the reverse. EAC 10.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

1797 Plain Edge - '96. Fine.
S-138, as evidenced by swelling at "OF," is a common Sheldon variety for 1797, and they are generally available very nice, as is the case here. The color is the perfect brown, and some original crud... |
