Lot Title:
1797 '97 Rev.- Stemless (S-131, R-2) and 1798 (S-170, R-3).
Description:
A pair of early coppers comprise this lot. The 1797 S-131 is easily attributed by the nearly grotesque die break on the left side of the obverse, and the most prominent post mint impairments take the form of repeated smallish rim dings around about a third of the edge. VG-8 details prevail, but an EAC 3 grade is probably appropriate. The 1798 S-170 is generally free of problems and is struck slightly off center to the right on the obverse, though the reverse is perfectly centered. Strong fine details are augmented by prominent rims and some semblance of dentilation where the rim is not off the flan. An EAC 12 grade seems appropriate, as there are no real issue requiring net consideration. Two coin lot.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
