Lot Title:
1796 Reverse of 1795 (S-97, R-3). Good.
Description:
Walnut-brown patina helps to diminish the effect of several scattered hairline scratches. The obverse rim barely touches the date, but merges noticeably with "LIBER". The reverse is more clearly defined at the edges, with no peripheral merging and quite a bit of the rim well brought up at the lower left side. Corrosion affects the left side of the wreath. EAC 3.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

This choice specimen appears almost in Fine condition. Perhaps this cataloger ascribed its grade level too conservatively during his initial evaluation. Because "LIBERTY" was placed low on the die,... |
