1798 Small Eagle, 13 Stars (B-1, BB-82) PCGS XF details/smoothed (incorrect attribution on PCGS label).

Description:
|
False luster suggests that both sides have been whizzed, or "smoothed" per current PCGS vernacular. An XF coin should not show strong cartwheels, but that is precisely what can be seen while tilting the coin around, although the unscrupulous process certainly has evened out the fairly profuse number of tiny ticks that (used to) pepper the fields. The coin has since been retoned in deep gunmetal-grey that itself doesn't quite look natural. (PCGS# 006867)
