Lot Title:

Pollock-3161: (1858) Cent Uniface Die Trial (reverse), white metal, PCGS.
Description:
Avant Garde Collection. Plate coin for both Judd and Pollock. The reverse looks nearly identical to that of a regular issue 1859 small-cent on the facing side, with the other side not struck. Minute differences between this pattern reverse and a regular issue reverse can be easily detected by the pointed ends of the ribbon at the very bottom of the wreath, and leaf clusters show a total of five leaves, rather than the regular issue six. Though one can readily question the usefulness of a "grade" (not to mention "grade standards") for a unique and unusual piece such as this, the grade is given by PCGS as MS-64.

Judd-208: 1858 Cent, NGC PF-65.
Aside from the 1858 date, Judd-208 has an appearance very similar to that of the regular 1859 issues, although the wreath on the reverse has a different configuration in the leaf clusters. ... |
