Lot Title: 1814 Crosslet 4 (S-294). NGC AU details.
Description: New World Estate. Any type collector worth his salt, particularly he who pursues the traditional 7070 set, knows that the classic head large-cent is one of the toughest holes to fill in high grade, and 1814 is a likely candidate in any typical set due to reasonable availability. Still, rough surfaces and dark color tend to be the norm, as is exemplified by this NGC AU details example. That being said, both sides display very sharp definition that will fulfill the needs of the collector looking for maximum "detail for the dollar". While somewhat dark and certainly recolored after having had the surfaces modestly burnished, the mahogany-brown appearance is about as close to ideal as a corroded example is likely to get. (PCGS# 036520)

199The Collectors' Auction 2008 on 10/17/2008$575.00
1814 Crosslet 4 S-294, R-1. VF, scratched.
Classic Head large cents are rarely available with as nice a planchet as provided by the present 1814, and just as exciting for grade considerations is the presence of a lot of flow line luster...
253The Midwest Winter Sale 2007 on 02/09/2007$475.00
1814 Crosslet 4, S-294, R-1. VF-30+.
This example displays a glossy dark gray-brown aspect, and has an original, untampered surface integrity. A series of toned-over scrapes are perceived on its obverse. Fairly well-centered, it...
254The Midwest Winter Sale 2007 on 02/09/2007$20,000.00
1814 Crosslet 4, S-294, R-1. MS-64 BN.
Although described as Brown, approximately 20% of original Red is retained on this specimen's lustrous surfaces. A slight cartwheel effect glows from its purplish brown aspect. It appears to have...
230The Collector's Auction on 10/20/2006$2,600.00
1814 Crosslet 4 S-294. SEGS MS-64 BN.
This coin didn't make it into a PCGS holder because of a rim bruise on the reverse at 12:00. Other than that, it is an awesome chestnut brown Large Cent that is free from any other distraction.
