Lot Title:
1814 Crosslet 4, S-294, R-1. MS-64 BN.
Description:
Although described as Brown, approximately 20% of original Red is retained on this specimen's lustrous surfaces. A slight cartwheel effect glows from its purplish brown aspect. It appears to have been struck from a fresh die since no die wear is observed to be transferred to the dentils, stars, or Liberty's hair. The surfaces appear flawless to the naked eye, and for a Classic Head issue, they are extremely unblemished. Only a couple of trivial ticks on Liberty's cheek, and a scant sprinkling of speckles, are perceived with the aid of a glass. Well-centered devices plus formidable detailing combine with visual elegance to make this example a prominent addition for even the most discriminating collector!
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

1814 Crosslet 4 S-294. SEGS MS-64 BN.

This coin didn't make it into a PCGS holder because of a rim bruise on the reverse at 12:00. Other than that, it is an awesome chestnut brown Large Cent that is free from any other distraction. |
