Lot Title:
|
1814 Crosslet 4 S-294, R-1. VF, scratched.
|
Description:
|
Classic Head large cents are rarely available with as nice a planchet as provided by the present 1814, and just as exciting for grade considerations is the presence of a lot of flow line luster outside the obverse stars. Walnut-brown patina predominates, except for a dash of pecan on the right side of the wreath. Of consequence to the grade are two issues that require mention in an accurate description. A pair of short, double-claw type scratches appear in the left obverse field, and more subtly, some toned over hairlines imply an bygone cleaning. Neither issue is terribly distracting, and the quality of the planchet for the most part outweighs what are minor problems by contrast. Free of rim dings or other type of impact damage. EAC F-15.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

This example displays a glossy dark gray-brown aspect, and has an original, untampered surface integrity. A series of toned-over scrapes are perceived on its obverse. Fairly well-centered, it... |

Although described as Brown, approximately 20% of original Red is retained on this specimen's lustrous surfaces. A slight cartwheel effect glows from its purplish brown aspect. It appears to have... |

1814 Crosslet 4 S-294. SEGS MS-64 BN.

This coin didn't make it into a PCGS holder because of a rim bruise on the reverse at 12:00. Other than that, it is an awesome chestnut brown Large Cent that is free from any other distraction. |
