Lot Title:
|
1796 Small Letters, B-5, BB-65, R-4. VF-30.
|
Description:
|
The surfaces are copiously shaded with a charcoal-gray aspect with just a whisper of lavender. There are no adjustment marks to note, and its surfaces are also void of detracting marks or blemishes. However, there are three minute rim bruises that are not uncommon for these large, heavy silver pieces. Diagnostically, the 6 in the date is double engraved at the top, and the reverse has a die bulge at the upper right of "I" in AMERICA. An appropriate specimen for this particular dollar type.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

The "graffiti" referenced almost defies rational description. In a smoke-induced haze, one might easily mistake the varied and mysterious glyphs as some sort of witchcraft, or nefarious incantation. ... |

1796 Small Date/Small Letters. ANACS AU-55.

B-5a is a cinch to attribute as soon as the die-break between "IC" on the reverse is located, and this is an only lightly-worn example, still replete with much of the original mint luster. Some... |
