Lot Title:
1796 Small Date/Small Letters. ANACS AU-55.
Description:
B-5a is a cinch to attribute as soon as the die-break between "IC" on the reverse is located, and this is an only lightly-worn example, still replete with much of the original mint luster. Some frosty texture emanates from the fields as the coin is tilted back and forth under a lamp, although one can easily surmise that mild cleaning created the somewhat pale silvery demeanor. The obverse rim sees an occasional tinge of gold, while the reverse features a bit more tin-bronze accenting the outer areas. Needless to say, for the ANACS AU grade level, hardly any detail has been lost to circulation, as Liberty's tresses are virtually complete, and the eagle's feathers are almost entirely complete.
