Lot Title:
1875 AU details/wiped.
Description:
Natural Classic's Collection. Proof examples may outnumber the surviving population of circulation strike 1875 (P) Seated Liberty dollars, as it proves to be an unexpectedly elusive issue in better grades, especially at AU and above. This example boasts intricate AU definition with finely struck stars and wing feathers, but feathery upward hairlines in the obverse right field suggest a light old wipe that may or may not play a role upon certification. Otherwise, both sides display fragile patina with no contact marks or distractions. (PCGS# 007037)
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

Of the 700 proof dollars coined in 1875, the type-2 reverse is considered scarcer, with no berry beneath the eagle's right (observed) talon. Those that have the berry tend to have a weak strike in... |
