Lot Title:
1848-C NGC XF-45.
Description:
Jackson's Branch Mint Gold. Tantalizing ash-yellow patina drapes the whole coin and emphasizes a vintage appearance, always a desirable feature for branch-mint gold. Virtually no luster remains, but the light wear has produced only smoothing of the devices without incurring any noticeable marks. Premium quality in the XF grade range. (PCGS# 007750)

A lamination error on an earlier gold coin is not necessarily all that rare, but is certainly all the more interesting in the form of a "peeling lamination", since the erupted metal is retained, still... |
