Lot Title:
1796 reverse of 1795 (S-97, R.3+) Fine.
Description:
Although the reverse is lightly layered with even corrosion residue, the obverse is surprisingly free from such environmental effects, and overall color is actually highly acceptable for an issue that is flat out tough to locate "nice". Most early copper collectors will immediately realize the value of such a sharply rendered coin as it faces up so well, especially by comparison to the many hopelessly low grade examples on the market. Close examination will reveal a plethora of tiny circulation contact marks that bar any chance of "ideal" smoothness, but when it comes to 1796, one takes what one can get in better quality copper. (PCGS# 035825)
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

Sheldon-108. Type collectors consider the Draped Bust type cent of 1796 a bit more available than the Liberty Cap, but for sure, neither is easy to find "nice", and most examples are either dark,... |
