Lot Title:
1798 Pointed 9, 4 Lines (B-14, BB-122, R.3). F details/rim bruise.
Description:
The consignor has been under the assumption that the few visible delicate rim bumps would be enough to preclude certification, but they appear to comprise only a minor infraction, and lesser coins have most assuredly been certified in the past (and will be in the future). All in all, the pewter-grey surfaces and patina look reasonably original, and no detracting blemishes appear within the primary focal areas. The curl next to "1" in the date is always weak for this die-marriage. (PCGS# 040039)
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

ANACS called this a 1799 dollar, proving that even the best era for their slabs could still see an occasional clerical error, but the details grade certainly seems correct. As suggested by the modest... |
