Lot Title:
1796 Small Date, Large Letters (B-4, BB-61, R.3). VG.
Description:
As silver dollars go, this 1796 BB-61 is nearly mundane, grading "merely" VG, but the story doesn't end there. This coin was lot 00495 in the 1975 Bowers and Ruddy sale of The Winthrop Collection, and amazingly, the consignor has retained ownership of the original catalog that he used during the bidding session! The catalog has notes in the margins, taken down during the sale, and it accompanies the lot, as does the original flip insert. Oh yeah, about the coin: surface exhibit fairly attractive platinum-grey patina, with some darker tone lurking in the obverse peripheral areas. Rims and surfaces are free from digs or other distracting blemishes. NEAT! (PCGS# 006860)
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
