Lot Title:
1808 8 over 7 (C-2, R.3). PCGS F-15.
Description:
The obverse overdate paired with a reverse that has the leaf well below ED, and a berry directly beside the upper serif of "T" in CENT. The marvelous rim cud above "TY" has developed a small crack extending left to the "E", suggesting die-state IV. This is a terrific coin for the commercial F-15 grade, a trifle flat in terms of detail, but wear is consistent and faces up very nicely. A shallow depression in the obverse upper-right field is clearly a planchet void, with a few other trivial depressions as-made in the bottom of the left field. Other depressions on the reverse are circulation marks. Pleasing, and unusually sharp for a coin with so much wear.

The overdate is quite clear on this issue, which is usually encountered in low grades. Its medium chocolate brown surfaces are relatively smooth, and it displays prominent definition on the drapery. ... |
