Lot Title:
1808 Normal Date (C-3, R.1). NGC AU-50 BN CAC.
Description:
C-3 is easy to attribute from the high last "8", with die-state II identified by evidence of rust in the obverse right field. The reverse is rotated almost ninety degrees. A leather-brown coin with minimal luster but some fine flowline texture, the faintest hint of powdery mint tan hue accents a device or two here and there. Housed in an NGC no-line holder, the CAC sticker may be ignoring three ancient pin scratches in the lower bust area, one through the date and a pair crisscrossing in front of the bust. These practically disappear because of patina consistent with the rest of the coin, and no other notable defects can be found.

This piece exhibits glossy brown surfaces. A short, old scratch appears beneath the "L" of "LIBERTY," and the reverse is discerned with mild porosity. The detailing is quite sharp with almost all... |
