Lot Title:
1807 (C-1, R.1) PCGS AU-58.
Description:
One pair of dies, with "7" in the date obviously from the same punch used for large-cents. Probably die-state III since LIBERTY and the date are bold, and not degenerated from later regrinding of the die. Detail is terrific, with some "spaghetti" effect noticeable in the coiffeur, and with expert delineation of the folds in the drapery. Both sides benefit from considerable frosty flowline luster, and deep mahogany tones are ideal for an early copper. Some greenish crud adhering to design elements on the reverse could stand professional removal.
