Lot Title:
1797 Plain Edge (C-2, R.3). NGC VF-35 BN.
Description:
Centered portrait and wide HALF give C-2, with no under type, a plain edge and die-state IV. Struck a touch off-center left, especially as compared to an NGC XF-45 in today's sale, with evidence in the reverse lower-right quadrant of a mildly tapered planchet. Several tiny pits, a couple of digs and circulation marks are randomly distributed, along with a green speck in the left ribbon end of the wreath, and there is reason to believe the surfaces were a bit more corroded in appearance at one time. Since then, they have been gently smoothed and expertly recolored, providing a very decent overall appearance.

1797 Low Head, Plain Edge (C-3a, R.3). PCGS VF-25 BN.
The portrait is low and ME stands over a triplet for C-3a. A glossy example, the surfaces have been carefully smoothed to lessen the offenses of even microporosity, with color nicely restored and... |
