Lot Title:
1841-C XF/cleaned.
Description:
Mintage of only 10,281 pieces automatically inaugurated the 1841-C as a scarcer issue, and attrition has reduced this number to fewer than 80 surviving pieces, by most estimates. As expected, far fewer still remain with details at the XF level or better, and this is one such piece. Unfortunately, both sides are rather heavily cleaned, nearly to the point of being polished, so some accommodation must be made by bidders, yet tinges of original luster can still be found clinging tenaciously to the devices. The reverse is rotated about forty-five degrees.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
