Lot Title:
1864 ICG PF-64.
Description:
The obverse is backlit by cobalt and jade-blue tones that enhance the eye-appeal somewhat, as it creates an aura around Liberty's portrait. These same colors gravitate to the rim of the reverse, joined by bright gold splendor in some areas. There are none of the hairlines expected of a less-than-gem grade, although tiny pimples in the obverse left field may be responsible for ICG's appropriate grade assessment.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

It is understood that usually, a proof silver coin graded PR-63 is kept out of a higher grade by hairlines, but in this case, it is the remnants of corrosion that bar upgrade consideration. This... |
