(About The Images)
1836 Original, Coin Alignment, J-60, Pollock-65, R.1. PCGS PF-45. 1836 Original, Coin Alignment, J-60, Pollock-65, R.1. PCGS PF-45.
Lot Title: 1836 Original, Coin Alignment, J-60, Pollock-65, R.1. PCGS PF-45.
Description: With fifteen points of wear, very little luster will remain on either side, aside from the fact that these were struck in a somewhat prooflike format and did not have full cartwheels to begin with. Details remain pleasantly sharp, with a little wear on Liberty's upper torso, outer shin, lower hand, and in the hair. The eagle's breast is a little flattened by circulation, as are feathers at the exact center of reverse. As an aside, it is interesting to note that the wear pattern for the reverse of a Gobrecht dollar very nicely imitates that of the much smaller Flying Eagle cents.

The rim appears to be particularly well preserved, given what the slab insert allows to be examined. Each face of the coin is exquisitely free of large contact marks, a considerable bonus when one considers the physical dimensions of an earlier dollar, but tiny abrasions are vaguely centered in the obverse right field. A few short diagonal scratches appear above the date, and the reverse is consistently spread with tiny circulation marks, not a one of them singularly notable.
