Lot Title:
1798 Large 8, 13 Stars Heraldic Eagle. PCGS Genuine.
Description:
The lengthy linear depression on the reverse appears to be as-struck under intense magnification, since in those places where it crosses over upraised details, there is no apparent movement of the adjacent metal. On the other hand, several adjustment marks are noted on the eagle's shield. On yet the other hand, what is not noted by PCGS is a rather significant cleaning that has dulled the gold surfaces somewhat, and the mustard-yellow patina is a little drab in appearance. The problems are most unfortunate, since details are sharp enough to suggest preservation at or very near the AU-50 grade level.
