Lot Title:
1795 Small Eagle. PCGS Genuine XF details/damage.
Description:
Modest circulation at the XF-40 level is accompanied by numerous tiny handling marks in the fields, and proper disclosure should be that this coin has been "burnished", or at least rather heavily cleaned. Color is completely even on both sides and lacks the subtle variation in tonal quality expected of an original coin, but of more importance from the valuation standpoint is slight blurring of the finest details due to the cleaning process. None of these caveats condemn this coin to uncollectible status, since at arm's length, it is not remotely ugly, but of course, bidders should be properly informed of shortcomings for such a scarce early type. On a final note, both sides display hints of clashed dies, with the obverse demonstrating the strongest evidence thereof.
