Description:

The obverse die is on the verge of becoming fully shattered, as it is trisected by: first, a prominent crack extending from the peak of the cap all the way down to the 98 in the date; and second, an additional lengthy crack that extends from "B" all the way down to the thirteenth star. Another lengthy die crack on the reverse wanders from the junction of the eagle's right (observed) wing up to the rim left of "OF" on the reverse. The ICG slab does not state so, but the surfaces display unmistakable signs of cleaning, including numerous hazy hairlines in both obverse fields and some slightly unnatural semi-prooflike reflectivity. Nonetheless, the eye-appeal is by no means offensive, suffering mostly just from "white gold" effect. There are no major blemishes, and most collectors will be pleased with the respectable sharpness.
