Lot Title:
1866 NGC PF-65 Cameo.
Description:
Cameo proof coins of the middle 18th century always seems underrated, since so many were mishandled or improperly stored over the years. Gleaming, reflective fields convey excellent contrast with the snowy devices for this gem, and that permits ready appreciation of the effect, since both sides are practically untoned. Only a delicate layer of beige patina decorates each side, and in no way detracts from needle sharp details. Realistically, there are probably fewer than twenty examples graded this highly between the services, discounting resubmissions.
