Lot Title:
1866 NGC PF-66.
Description:
A coin best appreciated under a loupe (and with the benefit of a good lamp), many bidders may take a glance and think the coin a little "dark" for the grade. However, as alluded to, some very attractive features show up under magnification, including surface texture that precipitates definite cameo contrast between reflective fields and finely textured devices. A pair of thin hairline scratches crisscross in the obverse right field and form the only significant distraction, but their effect is minimized by strong toning that offers a clever mixture of mustard-bronze and cobalt-magenta. Superior sharpness leaves only a few scant details at Liberty's head a little soft. (PCGS# 004759)
