Lot Title:
1796 Small Date, Large Letters (B-4, BB-61, R.3). NGC XF Details/improperly cleaned.
Description:
Ascribed as "improperly cleaned" on the insert, very little evidence of such mishandling is actually apparent upon first inspection. There are no obvious hairlines on either side, so presumably, the surfaces were considered a little too bright to allow for a straight grade. Smallish intermittent streaks of planchet grease streaks can be seen raining down upon the reverse, and the reverse rim at 8:00 displays an interesting planchet crack.
