Lot Title:
1796 Small Date, Large Letters (B-4, BB-61, R-3). XF/cleaned.
Description:
Though not an original coin, by no means can the creme-beige appearance of this dollar be considered offensive. Indeed, this one has a more pleasing appearance that many more original pieces that have their own share of other problems. Neither side is affected by substantial marks, though a tiny planchet fissure on the reverse at 7:00 is notable. Significant portions of luster still lurk between the devices of this nicely struck piece.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

B-4 is the most common die-marriage for the 1796 small-eagle reverse, and features a nicely "dotted 1" in the date. Eggshell-grey patina sweeps across both sides of this example, with several tiny... |

Ascribed as "improperly cleaned" on the insert, very little evidence of such mishandling is actually apparent upon first inspection. There are no obvious hairlines on either side, so presumably, the... |
