Lot Title:

1869 PCGS PF-64.
Description:
Even in proof format, Seated Liberty coins of the mid-nineteenth century sometimes suffered incomplete strike details, but not so this amazingly sharp example. The only area of minor softness noted by your cataloger is at the separation between Liberty's foot and the hem of her skirt. All other areas seem razor sharp. More immediate visual impact is provided by the deeply saturated toast-gold and cobalt-blue tones that compete for space on each side, with the former winning much of the argument on the obverse, while the reverse is practically entirely laden with the latter deep blue color. Obverse devices contrast noticeably with the reflective fields, while the reverse appears to offer only minimal cameo effect. Nearly a gem in the technical sense, and definitely a jewel from any aesthetic point of view. Opulent!
