Lot Title:
1872 PCGS PF-67.
Description:
Only this coin has achieved the PF-67 grade by PCGS, and none have graded higher. NGC has graded a mere two PF-67, none higher. So, odds are this coin is one of the most elite examples for the date. A full complement of deeply saturated rainbow color engulfs both sides with concentric portions of sea-green, ocean-turquoise and crimson-magenta shades. The pattern of color and technical magnitude are highly reminiscent of proof seated coins from the Kaufman collection. Surface texture suggests strong tactile cameo contrast, though of course the dense patina prevents visual confirmation, and the PCGS holder does not provide the designation. Prudent examination with a glass reveals surface quality that is tantalizingly near perfection, save a tiny mark just right of the date. Miraculous beauty!
