Lot Title:
1876-S PCGS AU-58.
Description:
Essentially a "mint state" coin from the standpoint of wear, as there is only the slightest friction on the highpoints. Some luster grazes and hairlines in the left and right obverse fields are surely all that is to blame for the AU-58 grade, as the reverse is certainly mint state. Housed in a PCGS rattler holder.

The mintmark is nicely repunched and the overall strike exemplary. A fine die crack connects the tops of UNITED STATES OF. |

It seems almost unfathomable that this coin wouldn't be in a "mint state" holder if removed from its PCGS "rattler" holder and resubmitted for grading, but evidently, some luster grazes and hairlines... |
