Lot Title:
1849 MOFFAT. NGC AU-50.
Description:
Fairly crisp design elements imply that this was most likely the recipient of a decent impression at the time of issue. Weakness seen in the curls around Liberty's ear (that is to say, Moffat's presumed rendition of Lady Liberty) is an ever-present characteristic of these territorial gold coins, as is the imprecise definition of the stars and the eagle's breast feathers. A hint of avocado-gold iridescence blushes over this original coin and reveals no marks of sizeable impact, though myriad trivial handling marks attest to a little time spent in circulation.
