Lot Title:
1843-D Coronet quarter-eagle, PCGS AU-58
Description:
As befits an AU-58 grade, this delightful gold coin has much the appearance of an uncirculated piece. Active mint luster glimmers from each side, and the surface quality is really very good for a coin from the Dahlonega mint. Light gold color encircles a perceptibly darker area that fully contains both of the primary devices. The 1843-D is considered one of the more "available" issues, but of course, in the context of scarce branch mint gold, this hardly makes it a common issue.

1843-D is considered the "common" Dahlonega quarter-eagle, with a mintage of 36,209, though that is well under a tenth the mintage of the 1909-S VDB cent! Pronounced wear affects this honestly... |

This is, without a doubt, as original a gold coin from Dahlonega as can possibly exist. The surfaces retain 100% of their vintage appearance, with dusky grey-gold patina and ashy deposits clinging to... |

Occasional accents of coppery tone interact with underlying butter-gold surface color to provide attractive eye appeal that benefits this 1843-D quarter-eagle, consistently one of the better-produced... |
