Lot Title:
1760 Voce Populi Zelinka 15-N, Nelson-12 “P before face” VF-20.
Description:
These are always struck on misshapen planchets, and in this case, the final letter of "POPULI" is off the flan as a result of its oblong shape. Compared to most others, the example offered here offers excellent reverse detail, but the obverse detail is not quite as sharp as usual, resulting in an appropriate net grade of Very Fine. There is a prominent “P” in the open field just right of the face, though researchers do not know the significance of the letter. Six strings on the harp, and two rosettes after the legend, conclude attribution. A charming, attractively colored, and pleasingly smooth example of this Redbook variety.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
