Lot Title:
1879 NGC MS-61.
Description:
Despite the modest (and technically correct) grade assessment of just MS-61, this is a fabulous coin. Fully prooflike, but not so designated on the old NGC slab, as it was certified at a time when that grading service did not record such qualifiers. Obvious contrast between the devices and the fields is augmented by the beautiful mirrors, plus as a bonus, this seems to be a nice, undipped coin. Excellent!

A low mintage (3000) and semi-prooflike Philadelphia product that seems undergraded at first blush, though a loupe reveals a few wispy hairlines in the obverse fields. This coin is imbued with... |
