1886 PCGS XF-45 OGH.

Description:
|
So many three-dollar gold coins have been dipped that sometimes it seems as if it is the original coin that sticks out like a sore thumb. The present piece, an 1886 encapsulated in an old green-label PCGS holder, is such an original example. Wholesome, rich antique gold color smolders from all areas of the obverse, while the reverse is half a shade lighter, though clearly original. Although most of the cartwheel luster has been sacrificed to the effects of circulation, this is clearly a very choice example of the type, and even the slightly flat strike and a delicate hairline in front of the portrait are not nearly sufficient detractions to deny that assessment. Gorgeous!
