Lot Title:
1795 Talbot Allum and Lee PCGS AU-58.
Description:
This cent, housed in an older green label holder, appears better than the assigned grade. The color is a light mahogany with some darker highlights. The obverse design motifs include a woman dressed in period clothes, and the reverse of a three masted sailing ship. The quality level is very high because they were struck on the same planchets as the British trade tokens referred to as "Conders." This token had trouble circulating, and many pieces were cut down and used to produce U.S. half cents, particularly the 1797 one above one. This is a "Red Book" type coin, and this striking is destined to enliven an advanced cabinet.
