Lot Title:
1787 New Jersey PCGS AU-53.
Description:
This is the "Small Planchet, Plain Shield" type. This coin is very well impressed on a typical quality planchet. The color is a nice mahogany. Coins from this timeframe offer so much information about our early history. The design elements show that we were an agricultural society with its horse and cultivator motif. The reverse shield design is to impart the idea of strength and sovereignty. All letters were applied by hand, and it shows with some letters being slightly askew. Always popular and seldom offered in choice AU, this will get you one step closer to that "Red Book" colonial set you've been working on.
