Lot Title:
1870 Standard Silver Design Ten Cents, J-857, P-937, R-7. PF-62 Brown.
Description:
This scarce pattern is listed as R-8 (2 or 3) by Pollock, and as R-7 (approximately 6) by The Society of U. S. Pattern Collectors. Continuing with the same design employed in 1869, it is struck in copper with a reeded edge. The surfaces of this particular piece are sleek and lustrous with an orange-brown aspect. Its visual appeal is further enhanced by lovely rose and turquoise nuances. A stray mark or two, and some toning flecks, are perceived when employing a strong glass to view this prominently struck rarity.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
